Follow these online security tips to ensure your online banking experience continues to be safe and enjoyable.
How do I protect myself?
We want your online banking experience to be both enjoyable and safe. That’s why we use 128- bit secure sockets layer (SSL) encryption, constantly updates and monitored systems along with multiple security layers and procedures. In addition, here are some other security tips to keep in mind:
1. Use a strong password. Choose passwords that are difficult for others to guess and use a different password for each of your online accounts. You can create a strong password by incorporating capital letters, numbers, and special characters, and using more than six characters.
2. Change your passwords frequently. You can change your password for HNB Bank Online Banking quickly and easily by logging in and visiting the Settings tab, and then creating a new password.
3. Look for your personal image every time you access Online Banking. Your personal image are selected when you first register for online banking. Seeing your image will let you know that you are at our real site and not a fraudulent site. If the correct image do not appear, do not enter your password. 4. Set up strong security questions and answers. You may be asked to set up several security questions that only you should know the answer to. Our security system will recognize the computers you normally use to access online banking. If you attempt to log in to your account from a new or unrecognized computer, you may need to answer some security questions before being allowed to continue.
5. Leave suspicious sites. If you suspect that a website is not what it supposed to be, leave the site immediately. Do not follow any of the instructions it presents.
6. Be alert when it comes to scam emails. These may appear to come from a trusted business or friend, but actually are designed trick you into downloading a virus or linking to a fraudulent website and disclosing sensitive information.
7. Don’t trust unsolicited e-mails, texts or phone calls. We never request that you provide sensitive or personal information via email. HNB Bank will communicate with you via email from time to time, however we never ask for sensitive information this way. Don’t reply to any email that requests your personal information. Be very suspicious of any email from a business or person that asks for your password, social security number, or other highly sensitive information.
8. Open email only when you know the sender. Be especially careful about opening an email with an attachment. We advise that you shouldn’t open attachments unless you are confident that you can trust the source.
9. Do not send personal or financial information unless it is encrypted on a secure website. Regular emails are not encrypted and are more like send a post card. Look for the padlock symbol to ensure that the site is running in secure mode before you enter sensitive information.
10. Only do business with companies you know and trust. Keep in mind that forging emails and creating phony “look alike” websites designed to trick consumers and collect their personal information is not difficult. Make sure that websites which you do business with post privacy and security statements.
11. When your computer is not in use, shut it down or disconnect it from the Internet.
12. Act quickly if you suspect fraud. If you think someone is trying to commit fraud and/or if you think you may have provided personal or account information in response to a fraudulent email or web site, report the incident immediately, change your passwords and monitor your account activity frequently.
